I got my essay on Mary Warren and the Salem Witchcraft Trials back. A! First essay this year that I haven't gotten an A- on. :D I tihnk this teacher likes me. She was very nice with her comments. And she liked my introduction, which is crazy, because the intro and the conclusion are the bits I was worried most about. I wrote them in about five minutes, half an hour before class. I hate introductions and conclusions.
Anthro 85 is still a stupid class.
Bio 38 is getting interesting. But I missed the class on synesthesia. As Karen would say... Rawr!
And in the broader scheme of things, I'm contemplating major changes. Not big changes -- just switching from Classical Civilizations to Classics. It's a good thing I like languages, huh? :P Erik made me promise to teach him Latin, hehe.
Also pretty much decided that I'm going to be changing the anthropology major to a minor. I'd still get to take all the classes that really excited me, and I'd also have more more space to take fun classes in other subjects. Like, the professor of the freshman seminar class I'm in right now is teaching a class on King Arthur...gads, that would be great... (A LOT of work from what she's been saying about it in class, though. o_O )
Although I'm going to be setting a meeting up with the undergraduate advisor in the Department of Classics, and she'll have a checklist for me of the classes I'll need to take. I was doing some preliminary looking at the requirements for the single-subject latin waiver program (because every time someone's asked me "Classical civ and anthropology? Wow! What are you planning on doing with that once you graduate?", my answer has been "I dunno, I guess all else fails, I can get an M.A. or a Ph.D. and teach", but really, I'd much rather teach in high school than in college. Hence also the reason for switching from Greek to Latin. I know Latin classes are offered in some high schools, but I've *never* heard of Greek being offered.), and there's a lot of classes I have to take. I'm not sure I'll be able to fit in the anthro minor, even. Rawr!
Ah well. Will figure this all out once I've talked with Professor Claxton and gotten the specs on what I'll need to take.
I would just like to say that planning your future is a pain in the ass. /// Frozen in time at 8:55 AM
o-kay, scratch the anthro minor...just did my best to figure out a schedule for the next three years, and because I'm doing the latin single-subject waiver program in addition to the classics major (the latin waiver program adds about nine classes to the classics major requirements), and because I want to graduate in four years (total. So three years from the end of this quarter), and because I don't want to have to spend two of those three years taking 20-21 units per quarter, I think the anthro minor is out of the question. But it's not that big of a deal. I can still take anthro classes that I want for fun. Just not all seven classes that are required by the minor.
My friend Keri pointed me to an article in the latest issue of Mother Jones that was rather discouraging about the state of public education that was very disheartening, but I am determined! :) And I went and found some websites about teaching latin, and latin clubs, that cheered me up. :)
Won't be able to find out when I'll be able to register for next fall's classes until the 15th. Rawr. /// Frozen in time at 3:42 PM
