While wading through my HumCore reading this afternoon, I came across the longest damn sentenc I have ever seen in my entire life. This is worse even than Milton, and I didn't know that was possible.

I wish that they may know, those who now are here or in time shall be, how I , don Juan de onate, Governor and Captain General and Adelantado of New Mexico and of its kingdoms and provinces, and of those neighboring and adjoining, settler and discoverer and pacificator of them and of the aforesaid kingdoms, for the King, our lord, I say that, inasmuch as in virtue of the nomination which of me was made and titles which his Majesty gives me, undoubtedly, as such Governor, Captain General and Adelantado of the aforesaid kingdoms and provinces, beside other greater which he promises me by virtue of his Royal Ordinances and by two Royal Decrees and two other second Royal orders and chapters of the letters of the King, our lord, its date in Valencia the twenty-sixth of January of the year one thousand five hundred and eighty-six, its date in San Lorenzo on the nineteenth of July of the year one thousand five hundredand eighty-nine, its date the sixteenth of January of the year one thousand five hundred and ninety-three, its date the twenty-first of June of the year one thousand five hundred and ninety-five, and by another finaly Royal Decree, its date the second of April of this past year of one thousand five hundred and ninety-seven, in chi, in opposition to certain opinions, his Majesty approves the choice made of my person and estate, exercising and continuing my said office and now come in claim ofd the aforesaid kingdoms and provinces with my chief officers, captains, ensigns, and people of peace and war, to populate and pacify, and other great number of necessary apparatus, carts, wagons, buggies, horses, oxen, major cattle and other cattle, and many of my aforesaid people married, so that I find myself today with all my camp entire and with more people than I took from the province of Santa Barbola, beside the river that they call the North and lodged on the bank, which is a place neighboring and adjoining the first towns of New Mexico, and the aforesaid river passes through them, and I havelft ard made open for wagons, wide and flat, so that it is possible without difficult to go and come by it, after having gone on foot through a hundred leagues of uninhabited land; and because I wish to take possession of the land today, the day of the Ascension of our Lord, which is counted thirty days in the month of April on this present year of one thousand five hundred and ninety-eight, through the person of Juan Perez de Donis, Notary of his Majesty and Secretary of the journey and government of the afoersaid kingdoms and provinces, in the voice and name of the most Christian King, our lord, don Felipe, the Second of this name, and of his successors, may they be manoy and with the highest felicity, and for the crown of Castile and kings whose glorious stock may reign in it, and by the aforesaid and for the aforesaid my government, basing myself and resting on the unique and absolute power and jurisdiction which the eternal, highest, Pontiff and King, Jesus Christ, son of the living God, universal head of the Church and first and only institutor of its sacraments, base and cornerstone of the Old and New testaments, foundation and perfection of it, has in heaven and earth, not only as to God and consubstantial with his eternal Father, who as creator of all things is the only absolute, natural, and proprietary lord of them, who as such can make and unmake, order and dispose according to his will and what he may consider good, but also as to man, to whom his eternal Father, as such, and as being the son of man, and for his dolorous and painful death and triumphant and glorious Ressurection and Ascension and the special title of universal Redeemer which he gained thereby, gave omnipotent power, jurisdiction and dominion, civil and criminal, high and low scaffold, and simple mixed empire in the Kingdom of Heaven and in the kingdoms of the earth, and in whose hands he put the weight and measure, judicature, reward and penalty, of the universal globe, making him not only King and judge, but also universal shepherd of the sheep, faithful and unfaithful, of those who today believe in and follow his voice and are within his fold and Christian people, and of those who have not heard his voice and Evangelical word, not to the day of today know him, whom he says it suits him to bring to his diving acquaintance, because they are his and he is their legitimate and universal shepherd, for which, having to ascend unto his eternal Father in corporal presence, he had to leave and he left as his Vicar and substitute the prince of the Apostles, Saint Peter and other successors, legitimately chosen, to whom he gave and left the kingdom, power and empire and the keys of Heaven, according to and as the same Christ god received them from his eternal Father, in him, as its head and universal lord, and in the others, as in his successors, servants, ministers, and vicars, and so he left them not only the ecclesiastical jurisdiction and spiritual monarchy, but also he left them habitually temporal jurisdiction and monarchy, and the one arm and the other and the two-edged sword, so that through themselves or through the means of their children, the emperors and kings, when and as might seem suitable to them, for urgent cause, they might reduce the aforesaid jurisdiction and temporal monarchy to fact and put it into execution as soon as the occasion and necessity should be offered they execute it, using the entire temporal power of the secular arm and power as well by itself as by fleets and armies on land and sea, in his own and in different and barbarous nations, with the pennons, banners, and Imperial standard of the Cross, subjecting the barbarous nations, leveling the way for the evangelical preachers, assuring their lives, avenging the injuries which they once received, might receive, restraining and checking the impetus and bestial and barbarous wildness of the aforementioned; and in the name of the powerful Christ God who ordered his Evangel preached to all the world, and by his authority and right extending the boundaries of the Christian Republic and amplyfing its Empire also by the hand of the aforesaid its sons, emperors, and kings, among whom the King don Felipe, our lord, King of Castile and of Portugal and of the Oriental and Occidental Indies, discovered and to be discovered, found and to be found, under the aforesaid power, jurisdiction and Apostlic and Pontifical Monarchy transferred, conceded, and handede over, entrusted and charged upon the Kings of Castile and Portugal and to their successors since the time of the supreme Pontiff Alexander the sixth, by divine and singular inspiration, as Christian piety teaches that he infallibly is, since God to his Vicar, who represents his person and supplies his place in such grave things, never fails, and true experience, master, and proof of the truth, has shown for long periods, which testifies with infallible certitude to the consent, permission, and confirmation of thet above-mentioned empire and dominion of the Orientall Indies and Occidental in the Kingdoms of Castile and Portugal and their successors, transferred and placed by the hands of the Cherch militant of all the other Supreme Pontiffs, successors to the aforesaid most holy Pontiff of glorious memory, Alexander the Sixth, up to the present day, upon which solid foundation I strive to take the aforesaid possession of these kingdoms and provinces in the aforesaid name, for which are allegged, as bases and pillars of this edifice, many other grave, urgent, and notorious causes and reasons, which move me to it, and oblige me and give secure entry; and with the aid of God and of his blessed Mother and of the standard of his holy Cross, by means of the evangelical preachers, sons of my seraphic Father Saint FRancis, giving much safer, more prosperous, happy success, and the first and of no less consideration for the present case is the innocent death of the preachers of the holy Evangel, true sons of Saint Francis, Fray Juan de Santa Maria, Fray Francisco Lopez and Fray Agustin Ruix, first discoverers of this land after that great Father Fray Marcos de Niza, who all gave their lives and blood, as first fruits of the holy Evangel, in it, whose death was innocent and undeserved, for, being once received by these Indians and admitted into their Pueblos and houses and the aforesaid monks remaining alone among them to preach to them the word of God and to better understand their language, trusting the safety of the good appearance and treatment that was shown them, and having come on all occassions to do good to these natives, so in all the time that the few Spaniards who were with them, who were only eight, remained in the land, as they were afterward alone, against the law of nature they gave evil for good and death to the other men as they, innocent and doing them no harm and who gave them what best they could and tried to give them life through the word of the law of grace more advantageously, cause and reason, were there no other, to justify my pretension, beside which the improvement, correction, and punishment of the unnatural sins and the inhumanity which among these bestial nations is found, which it seems proper to my King and Prince, as so powerful a lord, to correct and repress, and to me in his Royal name give hand to the present and, and without them the pious course among these faithless parents at present live and are born, who to their true Father God and chief Father neither obey or recognize, nor can, morally speaking, recognize except through this means, as long experience in these lands has shown, and when they can recognize him, entering through the door of baptism, they cannot preserve the fath nor persevere in their vocation among a people idolatrous and unfaithful, against whose will this work must be done because the will of God is that all be saved and to all shall come the sound and effects of his word and Passion, and God should be obeyed and not men, although they be judges or parents or if they have kingdoms or cities, for but one soul is more precious than all the world nor its commands, riches, and properties; and without these there are other evident causes on which I base myself for this effect, such as the great temporal good, as the spiritual has no price, that these barbarous nations with our commerce and treatment may acquire and gain in their political affairs and government of their cities, living like reasonable folk in modesty and understanding, increasing their professions and arts, mechanic and some of the liberal augmenting their republics with new cattle, livestock, and seeds, vegetables and provisions, clothing and fruits, and ordering discreetly the economic affairs of their families, houses, and persons, the naked being clothed and the now-clothed bettering themselves and leaving other causes, finally, in being governed in peace and justice, with safety in their homes and on their highways, and defended and sheltered from their enemies by hand and at the expense of so powerful a king, subjection to whom is true advantage and liberty, and to have in him an own father who at his cost and by means of his pay and mercy to such remote lands sendhs them preachers and ministers, justice and protection, with instructions truly of a father, of peace, concord, suavity, and love, which I shall preserve at cost of my life and I order and shall always order that it be kept under pain of same.

Yes, I typed up all of that. *faints*
