I'd be inclined to tell him straight out that he's acting like a dickhead. If he wants friends, then he should learn how to treat them, and how to relate to people. If he's not interested in having friends, then don't bust a gut over it.

Obviously I don't know the guy, but don't rule out the possibility that he may have some social issues, or maybe he's unhappy and doesn't know how to deal with it. Or he may just be an asshole. Some people have a tendancy to clam up and act like shit because they're shunned... There are a hundred possible reasons, but I can totally see why you're pissed. Totally. I know I certainly would be.
